Modern Interiors: A Synergy Between Modern and History
These modern interiors refer to a historical aesthetic that reflects the early and mid-twentieth centuries with a dash of modernity. The two most significant elements of a modern interior design are, without a doubt, Functionality and utility. The entire approach revolves upon decorative objects that have a purpose rather than being purely aesthetic.

Modern Interiors: The Plazzo Touring Club Project

MARCO PIVA AND ANDREA MARTIRADONNA
The Palazzo Touring Club is one of the chosen projects to showcase the Art of Modern interiors in the Home Society Magazine. Studio Marco Piva decided to merge together the existing historic architecture of the building with a modern interior design. The Gray rug highlights the curved blue sofa and creates a serene aura.

This space celebrates tradition and modernity while bringing to life the legacy of the club. The Palazzo Bertarelli is one of Milan’s most exquisite late Art Nouveau expressions of modern interiors with a luxurious interior design. The restoration of the authentic history that pervades the halls of the building is the result of a massive and significant cultural operation: in order to preserve and revitalize the Touring Club Italiano’s historical and cultural heritage, the Studio’s architectural design intervention found inspiration in the travel concept.

“I have a forward-looking goal with my Studio: living in the present while preserving the past and planning the future,” Marco Piva, Founder of Studio Marco Piva, explains. “This is the mindset that led the restoration of Palazzo Bertarelli, which utilized every component of the old structure while allowing its elegant and sophisticated character to journey into the twenty-first century.”

The project’s concept was divided into three main areas of intervention: the monumental restoration of the original façade, the need to respond to new needs arising from a change in intended use and the re-use of the spaces – while maintaining close ties to the pre-existing functions – and, finally, a design with great attention to detail that combines historical and modern value.

Modern Interiors: Private House In Padua Project

STUDIO MARCO PIVA AND BEPPE RASO
The second project for this section of art of modern interiors is located in the heart of Padua with a panoramic view of the entire city. The interior design accentuates the existing spaces while also highlighting the historical character of the building’s Art Nouveau architecture. The project’s goal was to create a functional harmony between architecture and interior design.

The client’s desired a polished and attractive home setting that was also contemporary. “The goal was to create a long-lasting, useful, and elegant room with rich features that underline the project’s exclusivity,” Piva explains. Some iconic pieces have been replicated inside, in keeping with the building’s architectural qualities and creating one of the most stylish modern interiors.

The enormous doors, for example, have been enhanced with huge glass panels and double-height to create an osmotic interaction with the outdoors and give the house a luxury and colossal character that is well blended into its surroundings.

The outcome is one of the most exclusive modern interiors with completely custom cladding and finishes throughout, as well as detailed bespoke designs in every room: from the use of precious materials such as marble, which has been carefully redesigned and reinterpreted both on the surfaces and on the cladding, to the use of metals to accentuate the architecture’s approach and highlight the contrast between the materials. Also notable are the numerous wood and glass finishes, which, when paired with the lighting system, provide magnificent light and shadow effects.
