This project is designed to evolve into a forever home for a family of four and accommodate multiple generations as the family ages. Oriented to optimize the views of these mountains and the forest, the house is designed to be a retreat for the family.

The two- and three-bedroom houses are all under 1,920 square feet and are organized around a “living street”: a central landscaped courtyard that can shift in use diurnally and seasonally, from parking to basic recreation to organized community functions, while providing a locus for neighbor interactions between public and semi-private spaces.

6- Malibu House

On a large, flat property with a lawn that stretches to a fruit orchard the clients discovered ramshackle structures (a three-bedroom house with a few loosely connected guest cottages) in need of repair. Their goal, rather than tear down the buildings, was to unite and logically connect what had become a hodgepodge of nondescript buildings.

7- Salkin House

The renovation included major repairs such as  realigning the sagging foundation, an interior stripped down to the distinctive red concrete floor,  glass walls that were removed and replaced with contemporary, sustainable glass elements, new cabinetry, and the repair of the distinct redwood siding. Together the architect, clients, and contractor updated the materials and used modern technology to solve the waterproofing issues that had frustrated previous residents and so damaged the house. An ill-conceived 1960’s bedroom addition was removed and the carport was restored to bring this dynamic design back to life.

8- Los Feliz
