Moroccan-Inspired Condo

With a joint vision in mind, the PlaidFox Studio team worked alongside the homeowner, an avid traveller and photographer, to create a space that was reflective of her globetrotting lifestyle. The three-bedroom condo was fully reimagined with all new interior finishes and furniture. Working with an awkward layout (different ceiling heights, oddly proportioned rooms) the PlaidFox Studio team created different zones through minor architectural changes. Custom pieces such as the rose cabinet, Moroccan-inspired archways, and floating-bench entryway were used to create a non-typical interpretation of a modern home. Materials were sourced from Morocco, Denmark, Montreal and Italy to accentuate the eclectic, bold style of the home and homeowner.

West Coast Port Moody Residence

Creating a home for resale can often pose challenges when it comes to designing a space that has equal parts personality and salability. By incorporating West Coast architecture and Scandinavian minimalism, the PlaidFox Studio team created a stylistic foundation that, although subtle, did not want for the character. Each of the home’s five bedrooms was designed to be unique, but with an overarching concept that “simple” is not synonymous with “boring.” The fully furnished house was filled with hand-picked lighting, furniture and decor pieces that set it apart from the more typical and expected interior of a show home.

French Country Yaletown Apartment

After years of their condo being left in disrepair, the homeowner wanted an elegant and current beachfront home inspired by French Country design. The entire home was renovated with new white-washed floors, soft grey cabinetry, marble and limestone. Both bathrooms were completely stripped, and the kitchen was fully removed and updated with all new appliances and finishes. Rather than a focus on colour, PlaidFox Studio team used the texture as their palette for the home. This allowed for the home to feel more spacious and connected to the exterior and Burrard Inlet views.

Rustic Walnut Grove Estate

This modern farmhouse built by Homestar B.C. in Walnut Grove, Langley, is a great example of how to mix modern and rustic styles without clashing. PlaidFox Studio team were brought in to curate furnishings, art and décor that would meld with the new build’s timber beams, vaulted ceilings and spectacular masonry. The home is full of unique touches, such as the extra-thick, rough-cut countertops, a hand-pressed hood fan cover, custom 12-foot drapery in the living room, as well as an antique, one-of-a-kind Wholesale Cash and Carry sign that was found specifically for the home. Top-quality construction, along with detail-oriented design and decorating, earned this home the Georgie Award for Best Custom Home Over $2 Million.

Campbell Valley Farmhouse

The retro bungalow, situated in the equestrian area of south Langley, was purchased mostly for its rolling pastures and picturesque pond, a place for the family of four to relax and unwind. PlaidFox Studio team renovated the whole home and the adjacent pool, taking the house right back to the studs. All that was left was the original ceiling and the living room fireplace. The family wanted a space that, although rustic, felt more California than Texas, so PlaidFox Studio team eschewed the typical country features of a farm home and opted for a lighter and more modern palette, and incorporated natural and organic textures and materials.

Modern Gastown Penthouse

This 2008 condo was originally part of a revitalization project in the heart of Gastown, where the 1901 Terminus Hotel received a rooftop expansion of modern housing. Given its rich neighbourhood history, finding the right balance between the location and the clients’ needs was an important consideration for PlaidFox Studio. Colours and textures, like the green from Gastown’s lampposts and heritage brick, were pulled into space and mixed seamlessly with more modern features, such as a custom 3-D millwork wall, a Zen master bath clad in concrete, and an eclectic mix of global accessories curated from the couple’s travels. Every furnishing, texture and art piece tells a story about their lives, from the seven-foot-tall Terracotta warrior replica to the original Joshua Tree wallpaper (sourced from a photograph they took on vacation).

Traditional Strawberry Hills House

This modern farmhouse in Strawberry Hills, an area just outside the charming riverside community of Fort Langley, sits nestled in the woods with nearly three acres to roam. While the property is large, the home’s interior was designed to feel cosy and intimate. To do this, the designers of PlaidFox Studio traded wide-open spaces for more private conversation pockets, a feature more typical of classic farmhouses. From shiplap ceilings to black herringbone tile backsplashes to concrete apron sinks, the modus operandi was to make interesting choices and play with multiple textures, colours and finishes. And other than a pair of crisp white linen chairs in the living room, this home was built to be functional and hard-wearing for a family with playful young kids.

Working alongside the homeowners and Homestar B.C., the PlaidFox Studio team transformed what was a decrepit farmhouse into a Georgie Award-winning, historically minded, rustic retreat. This home is the personal residence of one of the premier home builders in Langley who had decided to relocate his family from a sprawling estate to a more character-focused family home. Details like the antique wood-plank walls (reused from the property’s barn), salvaged doors, along with repurposed flooring, lighting and furniture establish the home as a legacy property that celebrates its own history. The end result is a timeless heritage farmhouse that will survive changing trends and tastes.
