iSaloni 2022<\/em>, had super-interesting Open Talks throughout the week and we were lucky to assist to one of them. Some essential and emerging themes<\/strong> were brought to life by a broad schedule featuring multiple influential speakers in the world of interior design.<\/a> One talk, in particular, was about Design Emergency<\/strong>. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This talk featured Paola Antonelli, Senior Curator<\/strong> in the Department of Architecture <\/strong>and Design and Director of Research and Development at MoMA, and Alice Rawsthorn, journalist, critic, and design expert, who have discussed the amazing diversity of design<\/a><\/strong> and its efficacy in tackling urgent problems through their Design Emergency Instagram lives (@design.emergency). This was an amazing discussion at iSaloni 2022<\/span> that made us realize how we are really in a state of emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Design Emergency: Building a Better Future <\/em>is a book based on the series, that <\/em>was released in May by Phaidon. Their talk at SaloneSatellite: \u201cThere Will Always Be a Design Emergency\u201d described the project\u2019s backstory and include a selection of past interviews as real instances of how designers<\/a> are tackling hard challenges in every industry in an effort to make the world a better place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They begin by giving a presentation to the community about their book. \u201cFor both of us, Design Emergency is a labor of love. It started while Paola and I were catching up to each other at the onset of the pandemic,\u201d and then the masterpiece was born and released, revealing Alice Rawsthorn. They focused on the design emergency in the early summer of 2020, particularly examining designs<\/a>. \u201cWhen you go back on past crises, from the Significant Depression to world wars, there is always, always great change across society.\u201d The two presenters were then certain that Covid-19 would also be a significant social change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this open talk, both authors discussed the project\u2019s history and included a selection of previous interviews. They used a climate emergency, refugee crisis, other current crises, and even the emergence of social intelligence as a significant part of how it was directly referred to as the design emergency point as inspiration for their work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cArchitecture has been associated with the construction of monuments, and it has been primarily a male profession \u2013 it has been about giving people what they think they want,\u201d they said, but they went on to say that architecture needs to embrace the community, learning not only what they want, but also what they need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paola Antonelli and Alice Rawsthorn showcases how designers are solving complicated challenges in a variety of fields in order to make our lives safer, healthier, happier, more productive, and inclusive in this open lecture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
