Run by Tina Seidenfaden Busck, who previously spent a decade at Sotheby\u2019s, the gallery is designed to evoke a private residence with all of its furniture, lighting, textiles and artwork available for purchase.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2736\" src=\"https:\/\/rugsociety.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TheApartment_5.png\" alt=\"studioilse\" width=\"950\" height=\"582\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rugsociety.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TheApartment_5.png 950w, https:\/\/rugsociety.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TheApartment_5-300x184.png 300w, https:\/\/rugsociety.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TheApartment_5-768x471.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px\"><\/p>\n<p>\u2018We always had the intention of bringing The Apartment to life as a home, not a gallery,\u2019 explains Studioilse founder Ilse Crawford. To wit, she has filled the space with elements borrowed from her studio, Busck\u2019s top-floor apartment in the same building, and her own home in London.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2734\" src=\"https:\/\/rugsociety.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TheApartment_3.png\" alt=\"studioilse\" width=\"950\" height=\"582\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rugsociety.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TheApartment_3.png 950w, https:\/\/rugsociety.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TheApartment_3-300x184.png 300w, https:\/\/rugsociety.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TheApartment_3-768x471.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px\"><\/p>\n<p>The apartment\u2019s interiors, almost unrecognizable from their previous incarnations (the gallery has a revolving exhibition program that sees its rooms continually reinvented), have been rendered in a palette of dark, fog greys and muted browns, with leafy plants peppered throughout. The rooms at the front of the flat are divided into an informal studio space, a living room and a quieter library area complete with a hammock.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The new exhibition recalls the studio\u2019s recent project for Vitra and Artek \u2013 for which it imagined the home of a fictional couple \u2013 although there\u2019s a broader aesthetic at play in the Copenhagen space. Crawford says, \u2018We didn\u2019t want to make it too prescriptive \u2013 we want everyone who visits to feel like they can inhabit it themselves.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2735\" src=\"https:\/\/rugsociety.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TheApartment_4.png\" alt=\"studioilse\" width=\"950\" height=\"582\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rugsociety.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TheApartment_4.png 950w, https:\/\/rugsociety.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TheApartment_4-300x184.png 300w, https:\/\/rugsociety.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TheApartment_4-768x471.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px\"><\/p>\n<p>Two new Studioilse designs have been launched just for the show: the \u2018Ilse\u2019, a contemporary, three-seater sofa produced by upholsterer George Smith; and the \u2018Brass Cabinet\u2019, crafted by North London manufacturer Jack Trench. Also furnishing The Apartment are pieces from Studioilse collections for De La Espada and George Jensen, alongside products by Michael Anastassiades, Muller Van Severen, Carl A\u00fcbock and Hans J Wegner.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2733\" src=\"https:\/\/rugsociety.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TheApartment_2.png\" alt=\"studioilse\" width=\"950\" height=\"582\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rugsociety.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TheApartment_2.png 950w, https:\/\/rugsociety.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TheApartment_2-300x184.png 300w, https:\/\/rugsociety.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TheApartment_2-768x471.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px\"><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the first time these pieces have been shown in this context together, and they resonate with Crawford\u2019s philosophy that good design supports human life and behavior. \u2018We toyed with the idea of calling the collection Invisible Furniture because, though each piece is beautiful in its own right, the starting point for everything has been that it supports daily life and daily rituals,\u2019 she says. \u2018They are the antithesis of showstopper design, where form is prized over function.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2732\" src=\"https:\/\/rugsociety.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TheApartment.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"950\" height=\"582\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rugsociety.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TheApartment.png 950w, https:\/\/rugsociety.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TheApartment-300x184.png 300w, https:\/\/rugsociety.eu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/TheApartment-768x471.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px\"><\/p>\n<p>Visitors to Studioilse \u2013 The Apartment will have even more reason to feel at home \u2013 up-and-coming chef Frederik Bille Brahe of local restaurant Atelier September will host a series of kitchen suppers to encourage discussion among friends, strangers and design experts. \u2018Creating layers of life is always a challenge,\u2019 says Crawford. \u2018We talk of all our work as being \u201ca frame for life\u201d: creating places, spaces and things that aren\u2019t fixed.
