The goal of this Design Talks Project<\/a> is to provide a platform that provides a fresh perspective on micro and macro trends in the interior design business<\/a>, while also adding value to the design enthusiast community. In this article, we go over the main topics in this interview with Jerome Lee, where we discussed several ideas about interior design<\/a> and the creative process of every of Jerome Lee\u2019s projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jerome Lee has worked all over the world, in Australia, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore\u2026 which has influenced his work a lot. Each client of each country had a particular focus and interest in what they wanted in interior design so it, of course, it influences each project he has worked on. He highlights the contrasts between working in Australia and China in particular.\u00a0In Australia, it is more regulated but in China, you have more freedom to try new methods and not always follow the rules by the book. HBA is a firm that continuously creates new benchmarks for elegance, comfort, and innovation all throughout the world.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jerome Lee has a team of 10 people in Shanghai that work on a lot of sophisticated branding hotels which enables them to be more innovative in their interior design<\/a>. Jerome Lee highlights that these types of projects make HBA stand out of the box and grant clients that visit those hotels, resorts etc\u2026 something different while they are traveling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a hotel designer, you must understand the client\u2019s needs. Jerome Lee says that when it comes to trends in the design world<\/a> he doesn\u2019t have a particular favorite but there are some architectural designers that he follows. He is not one to follow a trend because they come and go and do not last in time. He wishes for his projects to not follow trends in particular so that they can remain timeless within modern and contemporary styles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When designing a space he would rather focus on understanding the local context and do proper research on it so that he can understand the nature of the surroundings better in order to create a design that fits within its environment. The overall design needs to be more subtle<\/a> and calm while having its own character and not resemble any other projects. Jerome Lee desires to create interior designs that are everlasting and that the user will always find a connection to it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our guest also adds that when it comes to design there is a big difference between designers from the West and from the East. Western designs tend to have more color with more passion and are less bounded by the rules while eastern designs tend to be more bounded to tradition and its history. He mentions that this is also because of the clients that have preferences that influence the world of design. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked what products he would choose to complement his interior design projects, Jerome Lee underlines Rug\u2019Society\u2019s<\/a> rugs, which he finds have a lot of interesting and fun designs. He likes the colorful aspects of the products which can be helpful to create an interior design more unique and creative. He finishes by saying that he feels very inspired by these pieces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He concludes the interview by encouraging new interior designers to persevere in their craft and find what they are good at designing so that they can grow. He highlights the importance of finding a good mentor to guide and share their expertise<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
