Only the dusty pink concrete block central fireplace core, steel beams, and window frames remain from a tiny two-story mid-century house<\/strong><\/span><\/em> that was extensively and thoughtfully remodeled. The goal of the intervention was to bring the house back to life as a mid-century \u2018lost jewel,\u2019 while keeping our footprints to a minimum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new house<\/strong><\/span><\/em>, which was essentially a modest post and beam building encased in fresh stucco, glass, and metal from the 1940s, had undergone numerous design interventions<\/strong><\/span><\/em> over the years, resulting in a number of uncomfortable spaces and architectural vocabulary.<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the interior<\/strong><\/span><\/em> trim features, a post and beam framework intersects with new brickwork. White is painted on most wood and masonry surfaces in a variety of subtle hues and finishes, ranging from dead-flat to high-gloss lacquer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Contemporary Rugs Inspiration by Ther Archers Project\u2019s<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Archers<\/strong><\/span><\/em>, an AD100 firm created by Richard Petit and Stephen Hunt in 2002. The team\u2019s diverse areas of interest and combined knowledge result in a very collaborative approach to design.<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Office<\/strong><\/span><\/em> was designed to convey the executive\u2019s personal flair, confidence, and daring. We manufactured custom wood<\/strong><\/span><\/em> shutters and established a classicising order to the envelope with applied boiserie, lacquering everything a high-gloss<\/strong><\/span><\/em>, dark petrol green to balance the harsh brightness and heighten the drama in a virtually Kubrickian way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal of this project was to develop a fully functional second house<\/strong><\/span><\/em> capable of entertaining large events and overnight guests, yet we couldn\u2019t increase a single square foot due to zoning constraints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The intricate tile work and sculpted plaster features created an odd backdrop for the customers\u2019 collection of largely late-twentieth-century furniture and art. Prior to their purchase, the house had undergone a major renovation<\/strong><\/span><\/em>, and some questionable decisions had been made, such as uneven flagstone kitchen floors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
