This Architect is well known in the world of interior design with more than 10 years of experience. Before expanding her professional activity and launching Laura Stecich Architects, she worked as the Head of Project Management for a RE-Investment Fund focusing on luxury accommodation.

Laura Stecich of Laura Stecich Architecture was the guest invited to speak on this edition of Design Talks. She is an internationally trained architect with over ten years of experience working in London. She has a keen eye for business, modern interior design, cultural trends, and aesthetics, putting her multifaceted knowledge and market understanding to work by addressing each project from a broad viewpoint.
Modern Interior Design: Who is Laura Stecich?
She started her professional path in London working on major buildings and in large practices. She mentions she was used to thinking of a space as a whole, designing the “architecture of volume“, the interior design and the lighting as interlaced elements. Working at major practices was where she effectively shaped her vision and attitude to control all details of a project.

While designing a project for a client, she likes to be considered as a partner rather than a provider of services. She wants to be someone that can understand the client’s needs and find the right solutions for a project. She also mentions that hospitality is totally her area of expertise since it is predominately where she has gained the most experience in modern interior design over the years.
She started her own practice when she got the opportunity to develop a luxury resort in Egypt a few years ago and since then a number of international projects followed, often somewhere remote in the Middle East and in Africa. In the last few years she focused her activity in Italy, often operating for international clients on some interesting residential projects, mainly high end.

She believes her job is well done if she focuses on understanding what the client really wants to achieve with their project and by helping them out when the initial thoughts are not even well defined yet in their mind. She pays attention to the building, the volume, the history, and the surroundings, and it helps her imagine what the mood might be, as well as the internal references that might assist the project in order to tell a new story in line with both the past and the future, envisaged by the client to create the best modern interior design.
When asked if there has been a changed recently regarding her client’s taste in modern interior design, Laura Stecich mentions that they tend to be more observing and more attentive to how certain spaces make them feel, how colors, materials, volumes, lighting, acoustics, all have an impact in their perception and wellbeing. She highlights the importance of dedicating time and effort crafting a good interior design project. Nevertheless, she recognizes that biophilic designs are currently very popular and is a trend that is taking off.
She doesn’t fail to mention that design trends have lately been heading towards a generally refined style with round shapes, marble, velvet, brass, copper, and more metals. There is a shift occurring from technical and industrial design towards a more refined and comfortable design made with high-end products.
To finish the interview, Laura gives some advice to any newcomer in the world of modern interior designe that is: Self-confidence, face the setbacks and hard-work.
